Born to an Illmminati family, Near was violently removed from them at the age of three when they would not surrender him to the organization when his test scores and other indicators implied that he would be the next great organization leader. Brought up in total isolation in a series of Illuminati lairs, Near had great responsibility from a young age and was actively encouraged to value all people as tools and everyone and everything as a means to an end. |
| Near is not a sadist. Exactly. But he's no humanitarian, either. Raised in an environment of total isolation, where human life was attributed little or no value beyond the way in which they could be useful to him, Near's psychopathology was further compounded by the fact that he was given everything he ever wanted for all of his life, and was continuously reminded how special, unique and important he is. Naturally, Near has developed a fairly massive ego as a result, and considers himself the center of the universe and basically more important than anyone else. People are viewed as tools and objects, and never seen as anything more. He does not love, he does not hate, he does not feel anything other than boredom. He focuses exclusively on furthering the Illuminati's goal of covert world domination through knowledge gathering and careful strategy, and most other thoughts and feelings are strictly curtailed even though now that he is the global head of the organization, he no longer has to adhere to the regimes which were instilled in him as a child. In truth, Near is bored by his position and by everything else; nineteen years without any kind of emotional stimulus have left him largely numb, and it's difficult for him to feel anything at all. Leaving, however, has never crossed his mind, as he does not believe that there is anything better for him on the outside world. Instead, he takes out his resentment in subtle ways, such as keeping an incredibly tight reign on his personal minions and in passive aggressive maneuverers like wastefulness and refusing to do things in any way but his own, and in his own time. Unsurprisingly, having no contact with anyone but his minions (who Near does not see as people and who it simply wouldn't occur to him to touch in a sexual manner) Near is a virgin. Sex is something he tries very hard not to think about, as he believes there is no point exploring a dimension of himself that he will never get to fully actualize. Despite this, however, he frequently experiences highly erotic dreams, thoughts of which occasionally plague him during his waking hours.
